Website:  you can get the premium products from the website here

If you have not yet had the pleasure of coming across The Beard Baron then please get yourself ready for an education.  Head on over to the website or to the excellent YouTube channel and you will see that Johnny knows his beard and moustache game rather well.  Not only does he posses a great beard and wear it with style but Johnny is a man who shares a similar ethos the Hirsute For Happiness way.  You only need to watch a few minutes of a video to get the message that The Beard Baron gets that bearding is a way of life, and should be a happy and pleasurable pursuit for every man.  To compliment the wonderful tutorials we have the Beard Baron care and grooming products in the shape of premium beard oil and moustache wax.  I am very fortunate to have been sent the beard oil in the Wildwood scent and the moustache wax in Citrus Bay.

The products were packaged in individual zip lock bags in case there be some kind of leakage in transit, the lids were also shrink wrapped which is a great touch and shows that attention to detail that is often missed. The package also arrived incredibly quickly and well protected, there was also the happy addition of a new sticker for my coffee mug and I simply love the logo.

Moustache Wax

Ingredients:     Beeswax, Lanolin, and Jojoba oil plus the scent oils

Container type/size:

Great pocket friendly lip stick style tube with 15 gram of wax.  It’s very easy to use with the screw bottom pushing up and exposing the wax that you need

The Citrus Bay is a relatively simple scent, it’s every bit the type of smell I am sure you are imagining right now, if you aren’t imagining lime trees and such then come on, keep up!  So lime it is and its wonderfully fresh and clean smelling and certainly puts a smile on my face.  I really liked the fact that it seemed to last a very long time too, well into the afternoon and I could still get the odd whiff of citrus groves under my hooter.  Big thumbs up on this fruity zingy scent!

So I have mentioned the cool and handy tube, yep it’s that indeed and makes the wax application a doddle.  The amount needed is very little so go lightly first off to get a feel for it.  As you can see from the ingredients the lanolin and oil account for the slight stickiness in your fingers but it’s also the reason that the wax softens very quickly to a usable texture. When adding the wax to your hairs it’s a very simple affair, no words of caution needed unless you are incredibly heavy handed, just push it onto the hairs as per my video and then pinch it into shape. Whatever your chosen style this wax is easy to get the look you want, use it lightly for a natural look, combing it through as you go, a bit heavier for a tighter curl and a touch more to pull off an English style. I was amazed at how well it responded to the hairdryer once applied becoming easy to manipulate with some light heat and then firm up with a cold blast.

Top marks when it comes to the hold too, once this is in place it stays there, it’s really that simple.  No matter if you have gone heavy or lightly the shape is held all day with complete confidence. The Beard Baron has the ability to hold well but not feel like you have cemented things solid and I cannot fault it.

We have here a well made wax with very simple ingredients that function incredibly well, the lanolin is the master stroke I think and I simply love lanolin in case you didn’t know.  Great smell, I mean really great, easy to use and great hold and if you have been paying attention its easy to remove especially if you use my technique here plus you can also use the Beard Baron Premium beard oil to achieve this, oooh I’m slick just look at that link, shall we look at the beard oil?

Premium Beard Oil

The word premium is most appropriate, the oil has a wonderful blend of all key ingredients that are good for skin and hair health and they are contained in a slick-looking blue glass bottle with handy dropper fitted.

Ingredients: Jojoba oil, Argan oil, Grapeseed oil, Sweet Almond oil, Castor oil (plus the sent elements)

Softness- Does this oils soften the hairs then?  Abso-flippin-lutely!  Within a very  few short moments this oil has a great effect on the hair softness and feel and if you use it while you hair is slightly damp then its brilliant.  I like to wear this overnight too and come the time I wrench myself from my slumber my moustache is nice and soft.  I was also aware that the oil was having an effect on my skin with a slight tingle and a relaxing sort of feel.

Shine- The oil performs well here giving a very nice healthy shimmer that lasts long into the day.  I got some compliments from friends who saw that my moustache was shiny and looked healthy and this healthy shine also meant it was lubricated, protected and felt silky too.

Scent-  I have the Wildwood scent which consists of Cedarwood, Pine, Eucalyptus, Fir and its an absolute winner.  On first opening the bottle I was reminded of the Woodsman scent by the Bearded Bastard but when you compare them directly to one another they are nicely different.  I get a wave of happiness when I sniff the bottle, its woody of course with the eucalyptus adding a slightly medicinal element to the other oils and its my kind of scent.  If I close my eyes and try to “see” what I am smelling its a vision of wood shavings and a sepia lit workshop, its authentic and warming and certainly lasts long enough to keep you feeling and smelling great.

I have to say that the Moustache wax and Premium Beard Oil from the Beard Baron are definitely in my top 5 with a wax that is easy to use and inspires great confidence in its hold.  The beard oil is a perfect blend of base oils with well worked scent elements and I for one would be very happy to have the whole range in my possession.  You would be foolish not to consider this brand for your next beard/moustache product so don’t just sit there, go and get some and say hello from me.

Hi, I’ve discovered your sites and watched your video. Thank you for all the useful informations that you’ve provided there. I am interested to know what kind of product could you recommend me to grow and care my beard according to my genetic hair type . Thanks

    • hirsuteforhappiness says

Hey Jackson, thank you for leaving a comment it means a lot and I am pleased to hear that you have found in posts useful.

To be honest I don’t know that certain products will help certain genetic types but a good quality product will allow you to grow the healthiest hair you can and keep growing it. As you know I have reviewed lots of products and found many of them to help but I have also started to make it own as I feel I can bring something new and different to the Beard world. You can see this at FineFettlegrooming.com but it’s worth seeing if there is a person making products near you too

Maybe I’m doing mustache wax wrong. I tried Beard Baron wax for about a week. I stopped because I lost 2-4 hairs every day I used it.

I tried rolling it between my fingers, and in a ball, but neither softened it sufficiently. I also tried heating it with a dryer then applying it, but as soon as I scooped it onto my finger, it hardened again.

I liked the Wildwood scent (like cedar moth balls). The finished style was awesome, but I don’t have a massive ‘stache where I can afford to lose hairs willy-nilly.

I can’t go back to Clubman or Goet2BGlued. That stuff is gross.

    Your thoughts?

      Hey Doug,
Firstly thanks for your question and I’m sorry to hear you are having issues. Do you experience hair loss with the other products you have tried? I found that the Beard Baron was a little tack an so needed some work to get it ready but for me as with any wax its just a top cat to my already styled moustache. I am not sure if you have seen my videos but I dont have to pull or wark too hard with a wax because I achieve the shape and style with the hairdryer. I’m certain we can get you using the wax effectively but please come back to me with more info and we can go from there.
