Father and Son’s Beard Balm

Price when purchased: £9.50

Delivery feedback: The balm formed part of a well packaged box of wonder that included the Moustache Wax and beard oil plus a comb (which I have sadly lost )  Nice communications from the company too.

Container type/size: 1.5 oz screw cap metal tin

Aroma:

The scent of this product is a little too subtle for me, I get an almost liquorice and rosemary scent which is very pleasant indeed.  Its fresh and appealing and a pleasant aroma indeed but it does lack any real oomph and seemed a little subdued which is in contrast to the scent ingredients it contains Rosemary, Lavender, Cedar-Wood & Thyme with hints of Tangerine, Ylang Ylang, Sandalwood, Ginger Root & Patchouli.  I was expecting a little more I must say but nevertheless I like this stuff

Application:

Nice and easy to apply this beard balm is the perfect blend turning into a nice thick oily consistency from the firm wax-like material in the tin.  In your hands it becomes very easy to apply to the hairs and feels great as you do so allowing you to evenly run it through your face fur with ease.  The hairs feel good and it certainly allows a minor styling element.

Hold/Conditioning:

The Father and Sons beard Balm is the perfect blend of ingredients, of which there are many (check the label below) it’s not too heavy on the wax and so allows a wonderful natural styling with a great nourishing feel.  I noticed that my hairs felt silky and soft while it was on and this lasted all day.  It was easy to wash out and my facial hair did feel nice once clean as I didn’t need to use any soap due to the low and perfect wax level.  When it comes to style and hold it was able to keep my handlebar in shape even when I spent the day at the park and protected it from the sun and the wind.  I am certain that those with a large beard would find this will help bring form and control to their beard game.

Father and Son’s Beard Oil

The beard oil completes the scent range from Father and Sons in the form of  “Scout”, it comes a really nice and tactile frosted blue glass bottle, its one of the nicest bottles I’ve had and serves well to protect the oils within from sunlight.  The ingredient list is extensive which is in keeping with the other products in the range:

Grapeseed Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Argan Oil, Pumpkin Seed Oil, Castor Oil, Avocado Oil, Jojoba Oil, Safflower Oil, Hempseed Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Camellia Oil, Macadamia Nut Oil, Emu Oil

The bottle dropper top seemed to be a bit slow at first but I think this was due to there being a tad too much oil on the bottle and so it created a minor air lock.  However I removed it initially and upturned the bottle on my thumbs to stroke through my hairs.

Shine – The oil performs relatively well in this element  giving a nice subtle sheen to my moustache, it looked healthy without it being too shiny to the point of looking greasy.

Softness- Due to the vast number of ingredients it’s no shocker that the Father and Son’s oil makes the hair feel nice and soft.  I was also very impressed with how silky my moustache felt and I’m sure that running this through a big beard will be great.  My skin also had a pleasant reaction in that I could almost feel my skin relaxing and softening so if you suffer from Beard-druff then this will certainly help you.

Scent-  I have to say that the scent didn’t meet the expectations of the description for me, there is promise of a citrus woody wonder and I didn’t really get this.  The scent I did get was something I can only liken to cola, it’s very refreshing and though the thought of a fizzy pop smell might not be for you there is merit to it as its refreshing and to a degree uplifting.  The scent did not last very long which is a shame and seems to be apparent across the range.

In summary the Father and Son’s beard oil and balm are excellent when it comes to taking care of your facial hair, the balm is an absolute joy and perfectly balanced and the oil is lovely, light and great for keeping the hairs soft.  My only issue has been with the scents, they just don’t have the oomph that I personally like but we each are different and if you find most brands overpowering then this stuff is perfect for you.  In terms of function I cannot fault these products, they do everything you need them to do and with the use of great organic ingredients.
